Product Details

PNEUMABORT-K® + 1b is labeled for use in pregnant mares, and to aid in the prevention of abortion due to equine herpesvirus Type 1 (EHV-1) infections, and to aid in the prevention of respiratory disease caused by EHV-1p and EHV-1b in healthy horses 9 months of age and older.

In the fifth, seventh and ninth months of gestation, mares need a vaccine labeled to help protect against abortion caused by EHV-1. In fact, pregnant mares have more than four times greater risk of abortion due to EHV-1 when not vaccinated.1-4

Indications

PNEUMABORT K® +1b has been shown to be effective in healthy horses 9 months of age or older to help protect against respiratory disease cased by EHV-1p and EHV-1b and for use in pregnant mares to aid in prevention of abortion due to EHV-1 infections.

HOW IT WORKS

PNEUMABORT K® +1b has been shown to be effective in healthy horses 9 months of age or older to help protect against respiratory disease caused by EHV-1p and EHV-1b and for use in pregnant mares to aid in prevention of abortion due to EHV-1 infections.

What Is It For?
For the vaccination of healthy horses 9 months of age or older against EHV-1.

  • Recommended for whole-herd management — including geldings, stallions and mares — where there is evidence of EHV-1 in the herd population.
  • In the fifth, seventh and ninth months of gestation, mares need a vaccine labeled to help protect against abortion caused by EHV-1. In fact, pregnant mares have more than four times greater risk of abortion due to EHV-1 when not vaccinated.1-4

Dosage and Administration

  • For pregnant mares, aseptically administer one 2-mL dose intramuscularly (IM) during the fifth, seventh and ninth months of each pregnancy.
  • To aid in the prevention of EHV-1 respiratory disease in young horses, aseptically administer one 2-mL dose IM after weaning, followed by a second 2-mL dose three to four weeks later. Revaccinate with a single 2-mL dose six months after the second primary dose and annually thereafter.
  • To ensure proper placement and retention of the vaccine, inject deep into the heavy muscles of the hindquarter.
  • Mild exercise to promote absorption is recommended for one week after injection.

How Does It Work?

  • PNEUMABORT-K® + 1b is adjuvanted for improved immune responses.
  • The 1b subgroup of EHV-1 continues to be an important group, as are abortions associated with EHV-1 infections.5

Safety Information

  • Shake vigorously to assure uniform suspension of the vaccine.
  • An occasional local swelling or induration at the site of injection may be encountered.
  • Avoid freezing.
  • Store in the dark at 2° C to 7° C (35° F to 45° F).
  • When used according to instructions, local or systemic reactions rarely occur.
  • Do not vaccinate within 60 days before slaughter.
  • Use entire contents when first opened.
  • In case of anaphylactoid reaction, administer epinephrine.
